How often you should vacuum your home depends on various factors. If you have a robot vacuum cleaner, there are even more.

A Roomba vacuum cleaner benefits from being used every day or every other day. This is also the recommendation of the manufacturer iRobot. Regular use keeps the battery fit and gives it a longer lifespan.

Statistically, most Roomba owners let their vacuum cleaner robot run three to four times a week, but daily as pet owners.

Since the recommendations of the manufacturer and of the experienced users are the same, the following cleaning frequency can be recommended for your Roomba:

  • Without pets: three to four times a week
  • With pets: daily

Regular Use Extends Battery Life

The Roomba batteries like to be used frequently. What they don’t like is being discharged for a long time. When used optimally, you should not only let the vacuum robot run frequently but also recharge it each time you use it.

If you are not at home for a long time, like on holiday, you should charge the battery completely once and then remove it from the Roomba so that it cannot discharge completely.

It is also advisable to reset the battery more frequently to increase its life. Normally the battery life increases noticeably afterward.

To reset, press and hold the Spot and Dock buttons simultaneously for at least ten seconds. After this reset, you should fully charge the robot overnight until it goes to work next time.

How clean do you want your floor to be?

The answer, of course, depends very much on your personal feelings and what you feel comfortable with. Is it more important for you that your home is tidy or does everything have to look like a cleanroom?

Once you have answered this question, it is important to know how much dust and dirt the floor is exposed to in everyday life. Do you have a big house or a small apartment? Do you have pets with fur? How many people live in your household and how old are they?

These are all factors in answering the question of how clean the floor should be and how often you should let your Roomba run.

What kind of Floor do you have?

The type of your floor is also important for the question of how often you need to vacuum. Of course carpets absorb much more dirt and dust than a hard floor.

Your Roomba also needs to work much more on a carpet to clean it than on a tile or hardwood floor. The easier the ground for your Roomba, the less often you have to let it run.

For the best case with a hard surface like tiles, no carpets, no pets and only a few active people in the household, it is enough in principle to let your Roomba run once a week. However, you should still run it at least three times a week to avoid weakening the battery.

So the worst case would be a household with children, pets and various carpets. In this case, you won’t be able to avoid running your Roomba every day.
