We have less and less time and want to spend our precious free time with the fun things in life and not with switching our air conditioning on and off. The entire topic of Smart Home revolves, among other things around this problem. We can now remote control or even automate our devices, which not only saves us a lot of money but also a lot of time.

You can either opt directly for an intelligent air conditioner or make your old, dumb air conditioner smarter with the right tools. It doesn’t matter whether you have individual appliances or a central air conditioner in your house. There is now a suitable solution for every situation. There are modern, intelligent air conditioners that can do everything, separate air conditioning controls for remote control of normal air conditioners and intelligent sockets with which you can also upgrade very old, dumb air conditioners and make them intelligent!

Save Time and Money with Intelligent Air Conditioners

The ingenious thing about the automation of an air conditioner is not only the comfort but also the enormous savings potential. I hope I’m not the only one who sometimes forgets that he turned on the air conditioning. So sometimes many hours of useless operation come together. At the end of the day, you find a frozen room that was only used for two hours. This not only costs money, but it is also not really good for the environment.

In addition to the time and money saved by intelligent air conditioning control, the comfort is not to be underestimated. For me, it sometimes seems almost luxurious when I come home and my intelligent air conditioner has cooled the house down to a pleasant temperature on its own in summer, without me having to do anything. The controller reads the location of my smartphone and noticed that I was coming home and has already turned on the air conditioning for me.

Modern, Intelligent Air Conditioners

If you do not have air conditioning and would like to purchase one, you are well advised to get an intelligent air conditioner directly. In such a device all the automated features are already included and you can instantly connect them to your mobile phone, Alexa or Google Home and automate and remotely air-condition your home.

I have installed the Frigidaire Smart Window Air Conditioner* in my new Office. Especially the good price-performance ratio due to the numerous features and not least due to the good connection to WLAN, Smartphone & CO. have convinced me into buying it. The device is available in three power levels and is very quiet compared to other devices, which was especially important for me when working. Heating in winter, cooling in summer and the regulation of humidity is a matter of course.

Intelligent Remote Control for Air Conditioners

Modern air conditioners are usually already equipped with the necessary interface for remote control. You can connect an intelligent air conditioning control with Google Home or Alexa. Of course, you can also use different settings for each day of the week.

But what I think is most ingenious is to pair it with your smartphone and allow it access to your location. Then you can set your air conditioning to turn off automatically when you leave the house and turn it on automatically when you’re on your way home. So you always have your perfect temperature at home without actively worrying about it.

My favorite among the intelligent air conditioning controls at the moment is the Tado Smart AC Control*.

The Sensibo Sky intelligent air conditioning and heating control system* is also highly recommended for the somewhat smaller wallet. It is compatible with all common smartphones and smart home systems, is very easy to set up and simply does what it is supposed to do.

Intelligent Sockets/Plugs for Old Air Conditioners

You already have an air conditioner that still works and you don’t necessarily want to replace it with a modern one? Then maybe a smart plug is just the thing for you.

Depending on which smart socket you choose, you can access the smart socket with Google Home, Alexa or your mobile phone to remotely turn your air conditioning on and off.

Personally, I find that in today’s society we repair far too little or improve creatively and immediately throw everything away, buy new and replace. That’s why I think that the solution with an intelligent socket is the best solution for bringing an old air conditioner back to life.

Intelligent Thermostat for Central Air Conditioning or Heating

Many houses have central air conditioning or heating. Intelligent thermostats are also available for such systems. These intelligent thermostats mean that your central heating or air conditioner only runs when you really need it. This saves a lot of money throughout the year, which means that the sometimes quite high prices for intelligent thermostats quickly pay for themselves.

The Ecobee thermostat*, for example, offers savings of up to 23% on heating and air conditioning costs. This is quite a lot! And as with the other intelligent systems, this thermostat not only saves you money, it also saves you time, and you gain a lot of comforts as well. Over 1000 positive reviews on Amazon speak for themselves. Also, the ideal connection to Alexa is very comfortable.

The self-learning thermostat from Nest* is also quite ingenious. This thermostat is visually very appealing and really intelligent. It knows when you’re not home and saves energy. You can also control it remotely from anywhere in the world using your smartphone. What I really like, besides the display that tells you the most environmentally and energy-friendly setting, is independent learning. This makes the system more and more efficient because it can better adapt to your way of life and spatial conditions.

So if you have a central air conditioner or central heating and a normal manual thermostat, such an intelligent thermostat is really highly recommended. These intelligent thermostats don’t just look nice, you also save a lot of money over the year and you get some pretty cool features too. They can make suggestions for energy optimization or remind you when to change the air filters next time.

Energy Efficiency or SEER Rating

The SEER rating of your air conditioner determines how much power it delivers per energy consumed. With a good SEER rating you not only save a lot of money, but you also do something good for the environment. Be sure to pay attention to good values when making a purchase.

You will usually find the SEER rating of your air conditioner on a sticker on the device itself. Even if an air conditioner with a very high energy efficiency usually costs more than simple, inefficient devices, you can save several hundred dollars per year with good efficiency depending on use.

Bottom Line

As you can see, it’s really easy nowadays to make your air conditioning intelligent and to do something good for the environment and your wallet.
There are now really great products to save energy and time in any situation, be it with an old air conditioner, a central system or a new, intelligent air conditioner.
But maybe you are just as much as I am in love with technology and have a lot of fun turning your house into a smart home 😉
